Coaching, Workshops & Adjudication

Barbra is pleased to offer private coaching for individuals and theatre groups/companies.

Individual artists can receive coaching for auditions, self-created works and/or published scripts for performance (including fringe plays). Whether you are in the development stage of a script or rehearsing the final re-writes, we can help by offering an experienced ‘outside eye’ for your work. Barbra also coaches people in preparation for public speaking events.

Companies and community groups can book her for one or more coaching sessions during the rehearsal process. and right up until tech week. Directors may also consult with Barbra prior to beginning rehearsals or when choosing a script for performance.

“I so love having my plays workshopped by Barbra French!          …We got so  much out of this day.”

Josee Duffhues

“All in all, this was a very rewarding and beneficial workshop for any director (experienced or not) to partake in to either learn directing techniques as a “newbie” or to hone their directing skills and add new tools to their toolkit. Barbra’s extensive training and experience as an actor, director and educator came through in spades as she challenged us all to “push the boundaries” of the scripts and our work in a very supportive and safe environment. I am so glad I was able to take this workshop and would encourage anyone else wanting a worthwhile directing workshop to take Barbra’s. You will not regret the time and intensity involved with this experience!!”

WORKSHOPS (selected examples)

 Script Analysis for the Theatre

A full day or weekend workshop that outlines the basics of breaking down and analyzing a script for performance. This workshop is geared towards community theatre actors and directors, beginning playwrights and dramaturges, or anyone who is looking for a deeper understanding of bringing theatrical texts to life on stage.

Theatre Directing

This weekend workshop (Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday) is specifically designed for community theatre directors and actors who are looking to try their hand at directing. We will focus on reading and analyzing the play, casting, working with actors and designers, rehearsing, tech, and so much more.  The Ultimate Directing Workshop is an extended and more detailed look at the Director’s process, and adds two evenings to the basic weekend (spread out over a two week period).

Enrollment to either workshop is limited to 10. (Volunteer actors are required but may attend all sessions if they wish.)
